Celebrating 100 Years of The Norwich Society

We're looking forward to Norfolk Heritage Open Days (HODs) returning Friday 8 -Sunday 17 September, with hundreds of free events taking place across Norfolk! We've started working on our Norfolk HODs brochure, and we've got some brilliant events already registered.

We're really excited to be working with The Norwich Society to celebrate their centenary with a special exhibition: 'Norwich 100: caring for the past and future'. This photography exhibition will be on show at our home of The Forum throughout the festival, and will have 100 images of our City of Stories: from the familiar to the unexpected. Each photo will mark a year of the society and a building or a place that The Norwich Society has helped to protect.

There will also be a 'People's Choice' slideshow, featuring the places that we love and value the most. Visitors to The Forum will have the chance to nominate their own favourite place in the city. Alongside the exhibition, there will be two talks on how The Norwich Society was established, and the work they've done to safeguard the city, from Bishop Bridge to Anglia Square.

Of course, there are plenty of fantastic events taking place in every district! From the gory history of justice in Thetford, to Dereham’s Fiery Dragon, to the unique history of Cromer architecture, there is something for everyone. We're very grateful to the hundreds of volunteers and organisers throughout the county who make Norfolk Heritage Open Days possible, opening their doors and dedicating their time to welcoming visitors.

For 2023 the theme of Norfolk Heritage Open Days is 'Creativity Unwrapped', with events that celebrate every kind of inspiration: from garden design to photography, literature to fine art, performance to architecture.

For organisers who would like to take part in Norfolk Heritage Open Days, there is still time to sign up on heritageopendays.co.uk.

The online directory for Heritage Open Days is now live, but remember that organisers can sign up and add events until the 10th of August, so new events are added all the time.

Norfolk Heritage Open Days brochures will be available from late July.

Booking for most of Norfolk's events opens on Monday 21 August.
